American Airlines and STARLUX have officially launched their new codeshare partnership, and there's now a much more interesting development for points-and-miles travelers: **the airlines are working toward reciprocal mileage earning and award redemptions.**

Tickets for the new codeshare became available September 23, with codeshare travel beginning September 30, 2026.

Even better, American has confirmed that AAdvantage members purchasing eligible codeshare flights can earn **AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points**.

Using AAdvantage miles to book STARLUX isn't available yet — but STARLUX now says reciprocal award redemption is being prepared.

## The Codeshare Is Now Official

The partnership builds on the interline agreement American and STARLUX launched in 2025.

Travelers can book eligible American and STARLUX flights together on a single itinerary, with baggage checked through to the final destination where permitted.

The initial codeshare provides STARLUX customers connections to **20 U.S. destinations** through American's network.

Those cities include:

New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, Chicago, Austin, San Diego and several others.

American flight numbers are also being added to select STARLUX flights between Taipei and its U.S. gateways.

That's particularly useful because STARLUX has been steadily expanding its U.S. network with service from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Ontario and Phoenix.

## AAdvantage Earning Is Coming Into the Picture

This is where the story has changed significantly since the codeshare was first announced.

American confirmed to The Points Guy that AAdvantage members purchasing eligible codeshare flights can earn:

**AAdvantage miles**

**Loyalty Points**

That makes the partnership immediately more useful to American Airlines loyalists, particularly travelers trying to earn or retain AAdvantage elite status.

STARLUX's own announcement describes broader reciprocal loyalty benefits as part of the developing partnership.

## AAdvantage STARLUX Awards Are Coming — But Not Yet

The biggest news for travel hackers is that STARLUX and American say they are preparing a reciprocal frequent-flyer partnership that will eventually allow members to **earn and redeem miles on eligible flights**.

That means AAdvantage members should eventually be able to redeem American miles for STARLUX awards.

However, **you cannot book STARLUX flights using AAdvantage miles today**, and neither airline has announced when redemptions will begin.

STARLUX also has not yet appeared on American's current list of redeemable AAdvantage airline partners.

## Could STARLUX Business Class Cost 70K AAdvantage Miles?

Here's where things could get very interesting.

American currently classifies Taiwan as **Asia Region 2** for partner awards.

Under American's existing partner award structure, business-class awards between the continental U.S./Canada and Asia Region 2 currently start at **70,000 AAdvantage miles each way**.

If American applies that same pricing to STARLUX, a STARLUX business-class award between the U.S. and Taipei could potentially cost around:

**70,000 AAdvantage miles one-way in business class**

That would be an excellent redemption for STARLUX's Airbus A350 business-class product.

But don't count on 70K just yet.

American has **not announced STARLUX award pricing**, so the 70,000-mile figure is based on American's existing partner chart rather than confirmed STARLUX pricing.

## Atmos Rewards Still Works Today

You don't have to wait for American if you already have Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards points.

STARLUX remains an Atmos Rewards partner, and award flights can already be booked using Atmos points.

That makes Atmos the established U.S. airline program for STARLUX awards for now.

Once AAdvantage redemptions launch, however, it will be worth comparing availability and pricing between the two programs.

## Trash Panda Take

This partnership just became considerably more interesting.

The original codeshare announcement was primarily about easier connections between American's U.S. network and STARLUX's Asian network.

Now we know that a genuine loyalty partnership is being developed as well.

Being able to earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points on eligible codeshare tickets is useful, but **the real prize will be STARLUX award redemptions using AAdvantage miles**.

If American uses its existing Asia Region 2 partner pricing and STARLUX business class becomes available for around 70,000 miles each way, AAdvantage could become one of the most attractive ways to book STARLUX.

For now, though, don't transfer or acquire points based on that assumption.

**STARLUX awards cannot yet be booked with AAdvantage miles.**

We'll be watching for the redemption launch and, most importantly, what American decides to charge.
