# Rakuten Bank of America Travel Rewards Bonus: $300 Cash Back or Potentially 30,000 Bilt Points

Rakuten’s Bank of America credit card offers have been bouncing around quite a bit lately, and the Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card remains the most interesting of the bunch.

The current public Rakuten offer is **$300 Cash Back** for opening a new Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card through Rakuten.

That’s on top of Bank of America’s regular welcome offer of **25,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days**, worth $250 toward eligible travel purchases.

Put the two together and you’re looking at:

**$300 Rakuten bonus + $250 Bank of America bonus = $550 in total value**

That’s an unusually strong return for a card with **no annual fee** and only **$1,000 in required spending**.

And depending on how you have Rakuten configured, the $300 Rakuten bonus could potentially be even more valuable as Bilt Rewards points.

## Bank of America Travel Rewards — Current Offer

**Annual Fee:** $0

**Bank of America Welcome Bonus:**  
Earn 25,000 online bonus points after making at least $1,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening.

Those 25,000 points can be redeemed for a **$250 statement credit toward eligible travel purchases**.

**Rakuten Bonus:**  
Currently **$300 Cash Back** for eligible new Bank of America Travel Rewards cardholders applying through Rakuten.

### Total Cash Value: $550

If you take the Rakuten bonus as cash:

- $300 Rakuten Cash Back
- $250 Bank of America Travel Rewards welcome bonus
- **$550 combined value**
- $1,000 minimum spending requirement
- $0 annual fee

That means you're receiving value equal to roughly **55% of the required spending**, before counting the rewards you earn from the $1,000 in purchases themselves.

That's outstanding for a no-annual-fee card.

## This Rakuten Offer Has Been Moving — A Lot

If the $300 figure looks lower than what you saw recently, you're not imagining things.

The Rakuten Travel Rewards offer has changed several times in September alone.

Recent offers have included:

- **$350 Cash Back**
- **$375 Cash Back**
- A brief high of **$400 Cash Back**
- Back to **$375 Cash Back**
- **Currently $300 Cash Back**

At the $400 peak, combining Rakuten's payout with Bank of America's $250 welcome bonus produced a whopping **$650 total offer** on a no-annual-fee card.

The current $300 Rakuten payout produces a still-excellent **$550 combined offer**.

Because Rakuten changes these bonuses frequently, make sure you verify the amount displayed in your Rakuten account **before submitting your application**.

If Rakuten changes the bonus again, the amount shown on the Rakuten page at the time you apply is what matters.

## Could $300 Become 30,000 Bilt Points?

Potentially, and that's where this gets especially interesting for points-and-miles travelers.

Rakuten allows members to link their Rakuten and Bilt Rewards accounts and receive eligible Rakuten earnings as Bilt points instead of cash.

The important detail is that **Bilt controls the conversion rate**, and Rakuten directs members to check their Bilt account for the conversion rate currently being offered.

If your Bilt account shows the **1 Rakuten cent = 1 Bilt point** conversion rate, then:

**$300 Rakuten Cash Back = 30,000 Bilt points**

I value Bilt points at approximately **2.2 cents each** when redeemed effectively for travel.

At that valuation:

**30,000 Bilt points × 2.2¢ = approximately $660 in travel value**

Add the $250 value of Bank of America's 25,000-point welcome bonus:

**$660 + $250 = approximately $910 in combined potential travel value**

That's an extraordinary potential return from a card with no annual fee.

### Cash vs. Bilt

The Bilt calculation is an estimated **travel-redemption value**, not cash value. How much value you actually receive depends entirely on how you use the points.

## Why I Like the Bilt Option

Bilt has developed one of the strongest collections of airline and hotel transfer partners available from any transferable-points program.

Partners include programs such as:

- Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards
- United MileagePlus
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Southwest Rapid Rewards
- Japan Airlines Mileage Bank
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
- Virgin Red
- Air France-KLM Flying Blue
- British Airways
- Qatar Airways
- World of Hyatt
- Marriott Bonvoy
- Hilton Honors
- IHG One Rewards
- Wyndham Rewards

Most of those partners transfer from Bilt at a 1:1 ratio.

That flexibility is why I personally value Bilt points at around 2.2 cents each rather than simply treating them as one cent of cash.

A well-planned airline or Hyatt redemption can potentially produce considerably more value.

## What About American Express Membership Rewards?

This is where you need to be careful.

Rakuten normally allows eligible members to receive Rakuten earnings as American Express Membership Rewards points at a rate of:

**$1 Cash Back = 100 Membership Rewards points**

For ordinary Rakuten shopping, that can be tremendously valuable.

Unfortunately, Rakuten's Membership Rewards terms specifically state that promotions involving certain U.S. credit card issuers other than American Express **are not available when the member elects Membership Rewards points instead of Cash Back**.

That restriction matters here because this is a **Bank of America credit card application promotion**.

So don't look at the current $300 Bank of America Rakuten bonus and automatically assume:

**$300 = 30,000 Membership Rewards points**

For this particular offer, I would use **cash or Bilt**, subject to the payment options and conversion rate Rakuten and Bilt actually display in your account.

## Important Rakuten Requirements

There are several conditions worth knowing before applying.

Rakuten states that its Cash Back bonus is available only to:

- New, approved Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card customers
- U.S. residents
- Applicants who keep the new account open for at least **three months after approval**

Rakuten also limits the promotion to **one Cash Back bonus per Rakuten member account**.

The Rakuten reward may take a few months to post.

As always, take screenshots of the Rakuten offer before applying. With a bonus this large — and one that has been changing as frequently as this one — I would save a screenshot showing:

1. The $300 offer amount
2. The date
3. Your activated Rakuten shopping trip
4. Your selected Rakuten payment method

That's cheap insurance if the reward doesn't track correctly.

## Should You Apply at $300 or Wait for $375-$400 to Return?

That's the interesting question.

We have already seen the Travel Rewards Rakuten bonus reach **$375 and briefly $400** during September.

So there's clearly some risk of applying at $300 and seeing the offer jump again afterward.

On the other hand, there's no guarantee that it will.

Rakuten offers can move in both directions, sometimes very quickly.

At today's $300 level, you're still getting:

**$550 in straightforward combined value after only $1,000 in spending**

or potentially:

**30,000 Bilt points + $250 in Bank of America travel rewards value**

if your account offers the 1:1 Bilt conversion.

That's still an excellent offer.

If you're in no hurry to apply, however, the recent $375-$400 offers provide a pretty compelling reason to keep an eye on Rakuten and see whether another spike appears.

## Trash Panda Take

This isn't quite as spectacular as the brief $400 Rakuten offer, but **$300 is still a very strong bonus for a no-annual-fee credit card**.

The basic numbers are hard to argue with:

**$1,000 spend → $550 in cash/travel-credit value**

And for someone who can receive the Rakuten reward as Bilt points at 1:1:

**$1,000 spend → potentially 30,000 Bilt points + $250 in Bank of America travel value**

Using my 2.2-cent Bilt valuation, that's roughly **$910 in potential total travel value**.

There aren't many no-annual-fee credit card offers that can compete with that.

Just remember that this particular Rakuten bonus has been extremely volatile. Check the offer immediately before applying, verify your Rakuten payment method, and take screenshots.
