The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card is designed for small-business owners who regularly fly Southwest and want useful airline benefits without paying for the carrier’s highest-priced business card. Its strongest features include annual anniversary points, a free checked bag, preferred-seat access close to departure, earlier boarding and progress toward both A-List status and Companion Pass.

Chase currently shows the regular 60,000-point offer crossed out and replaced by 80,000 points without increasing the $3,000 spending requirement. That makes this substantially better than the card’s standard offer.

The bonus is unavailable to current cardmembers or previous cardmembers who received a new-cardmember bonus on this specific card within the past 24 months. The account must remain open and in good standing when the bonus is awarded.

## Key Benefits

**Free first checked bag:** The primary cardmember and as many as eight additional passengers on the same reservation can each check their first standard bag free. The cardmember’s Rapid Rewards number must be attached to the reservation.

**Preferred-seat access:** The cardmember and as many as eight companions on the same reservation can select an available Standard or Preferred seat beginning 48 hours before departure.

**Group 5 boarding or earlier:** The cardmember and up to eight passengers on the same reservation receive Group 5 boarding unless their fare, seat or elite status provides something better.

**Annual flight discount:** Each cardmember anniversary brings a 15% Southwest promotional code. It is valid for one year but cannot be used on Basic fares.

**Companion Pass progress:** Points earned from Southwest credit-card spending and welcome bonuses count toward Companion Pass qualification when they post. Southwest cardmembers also receive one 10,000-point Companion Pass qualifying boost per Rapid Rewards member each calendar year. Southwest currently requires 135,000 qualifying points or 100 qualifying one-way flights.

Timing matters. Travelers pursuing Companion Pass for a future calendar year should remember that credit-card points count in the year they post to Rapid Rewards, not necessarily the year the purchase was made.

**Travel and purchase protections:** The card includes lost-luggage reimbursement, baggage-delay insurance, extended-warranty protection and purchase protection. Coverage limits and exclusions apply.

## Who This Card Makes Sense For

This card makes the most sense for a business owner who flies Southwest several times per year and can use the checked-bag, seating and boarding benefits. The anniversary points and annual flight discount can help offset the $149 annual fee, especially for someone who books more than one Southwest trip annually.

It is also attractive for travelers building toward Companion Pass without adding another personal card. However, it is less compelling for businesses seeking flexible transferable points, airport-lounge access or broad bonus categories. The 2X gas-and-restaurant categories are capped, and most non-Southwest purchases earn only one point per dollar.

## Trash Panda Take

This is a genuinely improved offer because Chase added 20,000 points without raising the spending requirement. The card’s ongoing value also improved with the addition of a free checked bag, preferred-seat access, Group 5 boarding and an annual 15% flight discount.

The main weakness is the $149 annual fee on a card with limited everyday bonus categories and no lounge access. Still, Southwest travelers who can use the anniversary benefits should have little difficulty recovering much of that cost.

The current offer is particularly useful for Companion Pass strategies, but applicants should carefully control when the bonus posts. Earning a large bonus in December instead of January can shorten the useful life of a Companion Pass by nearly a full year.
