The State of Wyndham Points
Wyndham points redemptions were at the top of my list for years. Vacasa, the troubled vacation rental company that was bought in 2025 by Casago, was my go to for Wyndham point stays as they had a large footprint of available vacation rentals plus they managed the rental of Wyndham timeshare locations. Also included was an easy match to Caesar's status.
Things changed.
- The Caesar's tier match devolved to requiring actual stays at Wyndham properties. The Diamond status you automatically get with the Wyndham Earner Business card no longer matches; only status earned by actual stays now work.
- The Vacasa relationship was terminated. This hurt. I could still justify enthusiastically pursuing Wyndham points if number 3 (below) had not happened.
- Vacasa, who controls the Wyndham Vacation Club rentals, mostly doubled the points required per night. The great redemptions in Hawaii for these stays at timeshare properties went from 15k points per bedroom, per night to 30k. As a cardholder, you get a 10% discount (we'll get to that next as there are some issues) which is not a terrible redemption. An example would be a stay at Kailua-Kona, Hawaii at the Shell Vacations Club Kona Coast Resort. This would run, as of this writing, $245 per night in April, 2026. Using points with the 10% discount would yield about .91 CPP value at this location.
- Getting your Wyndham 10% point redemption discount can have issues. I recently booked a Wyndham Vacation Club stay on Kauai and it was not easy. First issue was that the Wyndham website showed the availability but did not immediately provide the 10% discount. Instead, I got a pop up that said I needed more points and had me call Wyndham customer service to get my discounted rate (I had enough points if I got my 10% card holder discount but not enough otherwise). Wyndham support informed me that the booking was not available to book with points even though it was on their website. I called back three times and got the same story. Solution? I bought enough points to book online without the discount. The website allowed me to process the booking (no pop-up) and then it even applied the 10% discount (the points I bought are now stranded with Wyndham but I would rather have that then no discount at all).
Should you still consider Wyndham points pursuit viable? I would, but I would only focus on the aggressive sign up bonuses like when they had the Earner+ consumer card offering 100k points. I would not give up a 5/24 slot for the typical 40-50k point offers. I would definitely avoid doing a point transfer with Capital One points unless it was a small top off. I was able to purchase Wyndham points for the Kauai booking on a point special for approximately .65 CPP so this is one of the few times I would use cash to do a top off. I use to get Vacasa redemptions valued at over 2 cents per points, but with only Wyndham Vacation Club and a hand full of semi-decent Wyndham hotel redemptions left that return less than 1 cent per point, Wyndham is no longer a priority.
