Aeromexico Cuts Lounge Access on Domestic Itineraries Starting September 1, 2026
Aeromexico will eliminate complimentary lounge access for domestic Clase Premier passengers and qualifying elite members beginning September 1, 2026.
Aeromexico is making a significant—and decidedly unfriendly—change to its airport lounge access policies.
Beginning September 1, 2026, passengers traveling on entirely domestic Aeromexico itineraries will no longer receive complimentary access to Aeromexico’s Salón Premier lounges based solely on an eligible Aeromexico Rewards elite status or a domestic Clase Premier ticket.
The change is particularly disappointing for frequent Aeromexico travelers who earned higher-level elite status or paid extra to travel in the airline’s premium cabin specifically for benefits such as airport lounge access.
What Is Changing?
Under the new rules, Aeromexico Rewards Platinum, Corporate Platinum and Titanium members will only receive status-based Salón Premier access when traveling on an international itinerary.
Aeromexico is also eliminating complimentary Salón Premier access for passengers traveling in Clase Premier on domestic flights. In other words, purchasing Aeromexico’s premium cabin on a route entirely within Mexico will no longer automatically get you into the lounge.
The change takes effect on September 1, 2026.
Domestic Connections on International Trips Still Qualify
There is an important exception for travelers connecting to or from an international flight.
Passengers with an international itinerary may continue accessing a Salón Premier lounge during a domestic connecting segment, provided the domestic and international flights are included on the same reservation.
For example, a passenger traveling from Mérida to Mexico City and then continuing from Mexico City to Los Angeles should remain eligible for lounge access because the domestic segment is part of an international itinerary.
However, someone traveling only from Mérida to Mexico City would no longer receive lounge access through an eligible Aeromexico Rewards status or a Clase Premier ticket.
Children Will Count as Guests
Aeromexico is also clarifying how children are treated under its guest policy.
Children between 2 and 17 years old will count as companions under the number of guests permitted by the member’s elite status. This could be important for families accustomed to bringing children into the lounge without using their regular guest allowance.
Lounge Access Is Not Disappearing Completely
Although the change removes complimentary access through elite status and domestic Clase Premier tickets, travelers may still have other ways to enter Aeromexico lounges.
Aeromexico says lounge benefits provided by The Platinum Card American Express Aeromexico and The Gold Card American Express Aeromexico will remain unchanged. Certain Aeromexico Inbursa credit and debit cards will also continue offering lounge-access benefits.
Travelers may also purchase a One Day Pass directly through a Salón Premier lounge, subject to the applicable terms and availability.
Therefore, Aeromexico is not banning domestic passengers from its lounges. Instead, it is removing the automatic access previously provided through domestic premium-cabin travel and certain Aeromexico Rewards elite levels.
International Lounge Benefits Remain
Eligible Aeromexico Rewards members will continue receiving access when traveling internationally under the applicable rules.
Aeromexico also says access to eligible SkyTeam partner lounges outside Mexico remains in place for qualifying members. The specific lounge, flight and guest requirements should still be checked before traveling, especially when relying on status from another SkyTeam loyalty program.
Why This Change Matters
Lounge access is often one of the most visible and immediately useful benefits of airline elite status.
Priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling can save time, but lounge access provides a more tangible benefit before nearly every flight. Removing that benefit from domestic itineraries makes Aeromexico’s higher elite levels less valuable for travelers who primarily fly within Mexico.
The change also reduces the value of paying for Clase Premier on domestic routes. Travelers will still receive the onboard and airport benefits included with the ticket, but the lounge will no longer be part of the package.
For some customers, this may make it harder to justify the price difference between economy and Clase Premier—particularly on shorter domestic flights.
Check Your Access Before Traveling
Anyone flying Aeromexico on or after September 1, 2026, should verify their lounge-access method before arriving at the airport.
Do not assume that a domestic Clase Premier boarding pass or Aeromexico Rewards Platinum or Titanium status will be enough. You may need an eligible Aeromexico credit card, a qualifying international itinerary or a paid One Day Pass.
Travelers with domestic connections should also make sure the domestic and international flights are included under the same reservation, since that is specifically required under the new policy.
Bottom Line
Beginning September 1, 2026, Aeromexico will stop providing complimentary Salón Premier access on entirely domestic itineraries based on Aeromexico Rewards Platinum, Corporate Platinum or Titanium status.
Domestic Clase Premier passengers will also lose automatic lounge access.
Access will remain available on eligible international itineraries, including domestic connections booked as part of the same international reservation. Eligible Aeromexico credit cards and paid One Day Passes will provide alternative ways to enter.
This is a meaningful devaluation for Aeromexico’s frequent domestic travelers—and another example of an airline shifting a valuable travel benefit away from elite status and premium tickets and toward co-branded credit cards.
