Targeted Amex Marriott Offer: Spend $300, Get $150 Back — Up to 50% Off
American Express is targeting Marriott cardholders with offers worth up to 50% back on qualifying hotel stays. The best version gives $150 back after just $300 in Marriott spending.
American Express has rolled out one of the better Marriott Bonvoy Amex Offers we’ve seen lately, with targeted cardholders getting as much as 50% back on Marriott stays.
The best version requires just $300 in qualifying Marriott purchases to trigger a $150 statement credit. Other cardholders are seeing a $200 credit after spending $450.
There are also reports of another 50%-back variation on some Marriott Bonvoy Business cards.
Important: This Is an Amex Offer, Not a General Marriott Promotion
This promotion is specifically an American Express Offer.
If you carry a Chase-issued Marriott Bonvoy credit card such as the Marriott Bonvoy Bold, Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful, or Ritz-Carlton Card, you will not see this offer on that Chase card.
You would need an eligible American Express card with the targeted offer loaded to your account.
That distinction matters because Marriott Bonvoy has credit cards issued by both Chase and American Express, and this deal is not available across the entire Marriott credit-card lineup.
Chase Marriott cardholders should instead watch for separate Chase Offers, Marriott promotions, and card-specific spending offers.
The Marriott Amex Offers
| Targeted Offer | Required Spend | Statement Credit | Maximum Effective Rebate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best widely reported offer | $300 | $150 | 50% |
| Alternate offer | $450 | $200 | 44.4% |
| Reported YMMV version | $200 | $100 | 50% |
The promotion runs from September 8 through November 30, 2026.
This is a targeted Amex Offer, so there is no guarantee it will appear on your account. The exact version can also vary from one cardholder or card to another.
If you have multiple American Express cards, check all of them before enrolling.
Where the Offer Works
Qualifying purchases must be made at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties in the:
- United States and U.S. territories
- Canada
- Mexico
- Caribbean
Reservations must be made directly through Marriott, including Marriott.com, the Marriott Bonvoy app, or Marriott reservations by phone.
That direct-booking requirement is important.
Do not assume a Marriott booked through an online travel agency or another travel portal will qualify, even if the underlying hotel is a Marriott.
Some Marriott Brands Are Excluded
The published terms exclude:
- Marriott Vacation Club
- Marriott Grand Residence Club
- Design Hotels
- Protea Hotels
- Marriott Executive Apartments
- Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy
- Vistana Signature Network
- Vistana Residence Network
There is something particularly interesting about what is not on that list.
The current terms do not specifically exclude The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, or JW Marriott.
That makes this offer potentially more useful than some previous Marriott Amex Offers.
For example, a Marriott promotion earlier in 2026 specifically excluded several of those luxury brands.
You should still verify that your particular hotel is participating, but this could make a $150 or $200 statement credit especially valuable on an otherwise expensive luxury Marriott stay.
The $300 Version Is the Clear Winner
If you receive the spend-$300-get-$150 offer, spending exactly $300 produces a true 50% rebate.
Of course, the percentage drops as your hotel bill increases.
A $400 Marriott charge still gets only $150 back, which works out to 37.5%.
Spend $500 and you're effectively getting 30% back.
That's still an excellent return, but if you're choosing between hotels or deciding how to divide charges, keep that $300 sweet spot in mind.
The $450 version isn't quite as lucrative, but $200 back on $450 is still an impressive 44.4% rebate.
You Can Reach the Threshold Across Multiple Purchases
The offer language allows the spending requirement to be reached through one or more qualifying purchases.
That means you don't necessarily need a single $300 or $450 hotel stay.
For example, two qualifying Marriott stays costing $175 each could potentially trigger the $150 credit on the $300 version, assuming both charges post during the promotional period and otherwise meet the terms.
That greatly increases the usefulness of the offer for travelers making several shorter stays this fall.
Discounted Marriott Rates Should Still Be Interesting
Nothing in the terms we reviewed specifically excludes discounted Marriott room rates such as:
- AAA
- Senior rates
- Corporate rates
- Employee rates
The important requirements are that the property participates, the reservation is made through an eligible direct Marriott channel, the charge qualifies as room rate or an eligible room charge, and the purchase posts during the promotional period.
That means travelers who already have access to a deeply discounted Marriott rate may potentially stack that discount with the Amex Offer.
As always with Amex Offers, don't manufacture extra spending just to earn the credit.
Start with the best room rate you can legitimately book and view the Amex credit as another layer of savings.
Be Careful With Foreign-Currency Stays
Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean are included, but the spending requirement is measured in U.S. dollars after currency conversion.
If your Canadian or Mexican hotel bill converts to almost exactly $300 or $450, don't cut it too close.
Currency fluctuations could cause a charge you expected to post at $302 to actually hit your Amex account at $298.
Giving yourself a reasonable buffer above the spending requirement makes sense.
Gift Cards Are Explicitly Excluded
This deserves special attention.
The terms specifically exclude gift-card purchases.
Historically, some travelers have reported that Marriott gift cards purchased directly at certain hotel front desks coded like ordinary Marriott hotel charges and triggered previous Amex Offers anyway.
That doesn't make them eligible.
If you try that strategy, you're relying on how the transaction happens to code rather than on the actual terms of the offer.
I wouldn't buy a Marriott gift card solely because you're counting on receiving the $150 or $200 statement credit.
Using the offer for an actual Marriott stay is the much safer play.
Other Purchases That Don't Qualify
The terms also exclude online retail purchases, purchases of Marriott Bonvoy points, hotel amenities outside the qualifying room-rate/room-charge structure, and purchases processed through third parties or intermediaries.
The safest strategy is therefore simple:
Book directly with Marriott and have the hotel charge the enrolled Amex card directly.
Don't Forget the Marriott Points
The statement credit shouldn't prevent you from earning the normal rewards associated with an eligible paid Marriott stay.
If your targeted offer is attached to a Marriott Bonvoy American Express card, you'll also earn the card's normal Marriott bonus points on qualifying Marriott purchases, along with the Marriott Bonvoy points and applicable elite bonuses earned from the stay itself.
That makes the effective return even better than the headline 44% to 50% rebate suggests.
What About Chase Marriott Cardholders?
If you're firmly in the Chase Marriott ecosystem, this particular deal is one to admire from the sidelines.
Chase Marriott cardholders should keep an eye on:
- Chase Offers for Marriott
- Targeted Marriott spending promotions
- Marriott Bonvoy global promotions
- Card-specific upgrade or retention offers
- Limited-time Chase transfer or Pay Yourself Back opportunities when applicable
The good news is that Chase and American Express frequently run separate Marriott promotions, so missing this Amex Offer doesn't necessarily mean missing out on Marriott savings altogether.
Trash Panda Take
$150 back after spending $300 at Marriott is an exceptional Amex Offer.
There isn't much optimization required here.
If you already have an eligible Marriott stay before November 30, activate the offer, book directly with Marriott, and make sure the enrolled Amex card gets charged.
The $200-back-after-$450 version is almost as attractive and could be particularly valuable at higher-end Marriott properties.
The broader-looking brand coverage also makes this promotion more interesting than some previous Marriott Amex Offers. A Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, W, JW Marriott, or Luxury Collection stay could potentially qualify if the property participates.
Just remember that this is not a general Marriott promotion and not a Chase Marriott offer.
Enrollment is required, the offer is targeted, gift cards are explicitly excluded, and the eligible Marriott charges must post during the promotional window.
Offer ends November 30, 2026.
